The Spiders are a five piece band from Dublin. We do not fit in easily to the Irish Rock or singer-songwriter scene, because we play a broader spectrum of music, ranging from 70's Funk, to Punk, to Rock, to Jazz, and some Synth Pop thrown in.

The Spiders were formed in Winter 2001 by Burnadette La Bouche (Formerly Megadude) and Olivia St.Laurent (Formerly SuperJesus).

We set up our own little studio in the South Dublin suburbs and began writing our own original songs with drum machines, synths and computer software, because we were so sick of the state of music in Ireland. Our aim back then (and now still) was to create music which made us excited, something people could dance to, or Rock out to.

By June 2002 we had a stack of demo songs on our 8-track and decided we felt confident enough to seek out band mates. A new drummer joined us that month, by the name of Pen-knife. We kept writing all through that summer, jamming out new ideas and by November 2002 we had found our dream bass player, a young whizz kid called Hilary Towers (formerly Sock). A few days later an old friend of ours and seriously talented lead guitarist by the name of Silvia De Transilvania (formerly TeaPot) became available after his old band (DaCapo) officially split up. He had long been impressed by our demos and we too by his live performances. So we finally had a full band. We practiced hard.

By February 2003 we had our first gig ever. In the Voodoo lounge. Which got off to a good start considering the dated sound equipment on stage and negligent engineer. We continued gigging frequently enough twice or three times a month until May 2003, notching up some great performances, and howls for encores in places like The Music Room, Eamonn Dorans, and The Sugar Club. We are a tight live band and relish performing for an audience.

Unfortunately we had to let our drummer 'Penknife' go due to differences in preferred musical styles. We began writing songs for our debut album in July '03. Due to that lack of funky and suitable drummers available in Ireland we've been searching and auditioning for quite a while. But we may have just found our man. As well as that, good news - our studio is nearly up and running: a brand new Pro tools Edit suite. We've got about thirty songs to record on it!

Luckily one of the lads in the band, Olivia St.Laurent is a qualified sound engineer. Things are really hotting up for us. So stay tuned for a debut which will piss on everything else you've heard outta Ireland in the last few years. Seriously. Thanks.
